In short: BT One Phone replacement usually means moving to BT Cloud Voice. BT has closed BT One Phone, its mobile-based business phone service, and BT Cloud Voice covers what it did: each user's business number on the mobile and desktop app, desk phones where needed, and hunt groups and call routing behind them.
What has happened to BT One Phone?
BT One Phone was BT's business mobile phone service that brought a company's office phone system and its mobiles together, so a person's landline number, extension and mobile all reached one mobile handset.
BT has closed BT One Phone, and former customers need another home for their business calls. Within BT's own range, BT Cloud Voice is the closest fit for a team that wants one business number reaching people wherever they are.
If you were a BT One Phone customer, check your contract with BT: what was agreed when the service closed, which numbers are on your account, and whether any terms carry over to a replacement. We can help you work out the questions to ask, but only BT can confirm your account position. We do not quote early termination or closure charges.
How BT Cloud Voice replaces what One Phone did
| What you used BT One Phone for | How BT Cloud Voice does it |
|---|---|
| Taking business calls on a mobile | The BT Cloud Voice app on iOS and Android, with your business number (included with Connect and Collaborate) |
| Showing the business number when calling out from a mobile | Call Director, included from Connect upwards |
| Ringing a person on several devices | Simultaneous ring and sequential ring, plus shared call appearance on up to five devices |
| Call groups so someone always answers | Hunt groups as standard, and call queues as a site feature |
| Answering calls when nobody is free | Voicemail to email and an auto attendant |
| Adding and removing staff yourself | The BT Cloud Voice Business Portal, for users, call routing and greetings |
One thing is worth knowing: the BT Cloud Voice app works over an internet connection, on Wi-Fi or mobile data. That means call quality depends on your connection, so we check it first. See internet connection requirements.
Mobile, desktop or desk phone: choosing devices
If your team worked mainly from mobiles on BT One Phone, BT Cloud Voice can work the same way. It also lets you mix in other devices where they suit the job:
- App-only users on the Connect or Collaborate pack, using the BT Cloud Voice app on their mobile and computer.
- Desk phone users for people who spend most of the day at a desk. See desk phones.
- Shared phones on the Basic pack for a reception, a workshop or a stockroom.
- Cordless phones for staff who move around a building. See cordless DECT phones.
Mobile users still need their mobile service for the handset itself. BT Cloud Voice adds the business number and phone system features on top through the app.
Your numbers
Numbers are the part to get right first.
- Landline-style numbers beginning 01 or 02 can be ported to BT Cloud Voice. The port happens on go-live day, after the phones are checked. See numbers and porting.
- Non-geographic numbers such as 0800 or 03 are checked case by case. See non-geographic numbers.
- Mobile (07) numbers are a separate matter: they stay with a mobile service rather than moving onto BT Cloud Voice. We confirm how yours are handled.
Do not cancel anything on your old account until we have confirmed where each number is going. Cancelling first can mean losing a number.
How the move works
- List your users and numbers: who had BT One Phone, which numbers they used and how calls were routed.
- Check your BT contract and account position for the closed service.
- Check your connection at each site. BT tests whether your connection can support BT Cloud Voice before you order.
- Choose feature packs and devices for each person, and design hunt groups, queues and greetings.
- Order, set up and train: users get the app and, where needed, a desk phone configured in advance.
- Go live: the phones are checked, then the numbers are ported.
The full process is on switching to BT Cloud Voice.
